When One Door Closes… Another One Opens

Posted by admin on July 9, 2009

444Have you ever found yourself in a transition where you know you need to let go of one thing in order to embrace and welcome what’s next?  Me, too!

I used to beat myself up, feeling like a failure because something I had done didn’t work out as I planned.  But, now when I find myself in front of a closing door I welcome it, embrace it and begin to get excited about what’s coming next.  Because, it’s always something bigger and better than I could have imagined.  So, I want to share a few tips that can help you move through the transitions in your life with a bit more grace.

1.  Know that everything happens for a reason.

No matter what you face in your life, there is a larger plan at work that is guiding you to where you’re meant to be.  So allow yourself to relax through the situation and embrace the deeper meaning in what’s happening.

2.  Have faith in yourself.
As you journey through life, the greatest gift and asset you have is your Self.  So, believe in your Self, in who you are and your ability to love yourself through everything.

3.  Trust the process.

Surrender to the process that is unfolding, stay engaged in that process and you’ll “arrive” exactly where you’re meant to be.

  1. Lauren McMullen Said,

“Know that everything happens for a reason.” ….This advice really speaks to me at this time of my life. During my Dads battle with Alzheimer’s, I often thought about what could possibly be good for him or us about this dreadful disease.

But after his passing when I looked back, I was amazed by how much closer our family became during this terrible time. I also was able to observe the depth of the feelings Mom and Dad had for each other. They came from an a generationg where lots of public affection was not shown so I sometimes wondered if they really cared about each other.

Not anymore, She was his tireless champion and even to the end, when he was unable to tell us apart, he always knew we were “his girls”, Mom, me and my sister.

Now that he is in heaven and his suffering is over I am comforted by the fact that he now knows how much we loved him as we all worked to make him comfortable and to preserve his dignity as he moved through the stages of the disease process.

I know the Bible says we are to rejoice in our suffering so the world can tell we are different. I can not say I am capable of that yet but in the aftermath I can at least see that these were things I never would have known without this experience and for that knowledge I can be thankful.

  2. Julio Blanco Said,

Christine – in my life, the door closed on my corporate career and a big door opened into my real life as a conscious entrepreneur. God’s hand was so clear in that transition. I now find that the process of doors open and close all the time, and it feels like a process of pruning a vine so that my life can continue to thrive toward its intended destination. It’s perfect, because God is working perfectly despite the moments when my faith is week and my trust is low. I so agree with you… just let go and move forward with faith.
