Overcoming adversity through persistence

Posted by admin on August 26, 2009

focusPersistence is one of the greatest secrets to overcoming virtually any obstacle that you are presented with in life. You may be faced with a lack of talent, skill or knowhow, however by remaining persistent in your actions and beliefs about overcoming the obstacle you will steadily begin to whither away at the obstruction until it no longer plays a role in your life.

By remaining focused and persistent, regardless of what the current conditions may dictate, you are sending a message to the Universe, and the Universe responds in kind by sending you the support and guidance you desire.

How to Overcome Adversity

Posted by admin on August 20, 2009

twitNobody ever said life was easy. It can throw so many twists and turns at us that it’s no wonder we sometimes get lost along the way. When faced with a hardship it’s so easy to get caught up with the why-me’s and the self-pity that we lose sight of the actual gift we are being given which is the chance for growth. So long as one has the strength to overcome a challenge that person will likely be blessed with a fresh perspective on life and will in turn give more back to the world than they ever could have before. Using my own experience as background for this article I would like to share my insight on the subject of how to overcome adversity.

Expansion Through Simplification

Posted by admin on August 15, 2009

In a world being torn apart from the desire for “more, more, more”… something incredible is happening.   There is a “shift” underway; from the old, greedy patterns of yesterday to a more simplified and aligned approach to everything.

I was reminded of this again last night as I was watching Dr. Wayne Dyer’s movie “The Shift.”  He talked so beautifully about the “morning and afternoon” of life.  He refers to this as a shift of moving from an ego-based drive for money, acquisitions and external achievements to a love based desire to be of service, and to experience  (and be a source of) peace and love.

I know I may sound like a hippie talking about service, peace and love, but the new business paradigm is based on these very things.  I can’t tell you how many entrepreneurs I’ve been talking to lately who are fed up with all the hype out there about how you can get ri^ch quick.  These are the entrepreneurs who are looking and searching to find true MEANING in their work, and to become more aligned with who they are here to BE, and who they are here to serve… knowing that THIS is the place where abundance of all kinds FLOWS!

This quest is the most valuable and important quest a conscious entrepreneur can go on.  It is only through these deep internal shifts in your own consciousness that you can experience the abundance and lasting success you’re looking for in your life and your business.  This is a shift toward simplicity, a shift toward your own energetic expansion, a shift toward surrendering and trusting a Higher plan.

So, I want to share with you three of the most valuable lessons I’m learning right now as I expand… through simplification.

1) Less is More
I’ve spoken with several entrepreneurs lately who have hit big milestones in their businesses, who are now questioning and wondering what it’s all for.  The overhead is high, the stress is high, the ambition is high… but the quality of life and of “Being” are low.  Contraction has been happening in the very space where expansion is most needed.  The solution we’re all seeing as we “compare notes” is that the key to growth isn’t “bigger is better”… the key to the growth we’re looking for in terms of fulfillment, satisfaction, ease, openness and grace is SIMPLICITY!  Scaling back, saying no, releasing projects, rethinking the “more is better” business model… is what’s leading me and others I know to more freedom and true soul fulfillment.

2) Seek Ease
This has been a huge lesson for me.  I’ve run a racket for years that business was supposed to be “hard.”  That I was supposed to be juggling many projects at once, that I was always supposed to be in “create” mode, etc.  I realize how ridiculous it is to keep striving unnecessarily, yet I was doing it.   My focus now, as with many of my colleagues and clients, is turned toward the experience of EASE.  With the help of my mastermind colleagues in Connecticut recently, they helped me see that I was trying to “do” way too much, and they called me on it.  They helped me see a huge and soul fulfilling oppor^tunity that I’ve been moving away from for 8 years.  It hurt to see that I pushed away ease in exchange for “work”…. but I’m glad now that I’m seeing what I need to see and I’m making some new choices.  (I’ll be sure to share what’s evolving as soon as it’s ready.)

3) Trust
Above everything, especially when things get more difficult then you ever thought they could… TRUST!  This is one of my four “Conscious Entrepreneur” criteria I talk about in Chapter 1 of The Freedom Formula.  It’s essential to trust in your Higher/Divine plan as you move forward in your business and your life.  I’ve been living in this trust and teaching it for years.  Yet, now, with all the change I’m going through on my spiritual path, I’m realizing just how important this one factor is.  Growth of any kind can be challenging, but when you breathe and acknowledge the role that God is playing in supporting, guiding and leading you, it gets easier.  When you trust, you open up a space where you can see the Universe conspiring for your highest good in every moment.  It always is…

These three lessons have been valuable ones for me as I grow, evolve and shift into the next evolution of myself.  And, they’ve become a theme for many of my clients, too.  Embracing these three concepts will help you experience more of everything you’re looking for in your life and your business.  Doing less, seeking ease and trusting are great ways to start experiencing MORE of YOU!

Nothing But the Best!

Posted by admin on August 13, 2009

Recently I purchased a very nice DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera. My son (of the Google generation) found the best camera for me with the best price, given my specific plans and purposes. I was thrilled with my purchase, and immediately registered for a photography course to learn how to really use its features, not just the lazy-dog automatic focus. (There is nothing wrong with lazy-dog living. It’s just that it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to pay $700.00 +for a very heavy, very cumbersome digital Point and Shoot.)

I went to my first photography class with all the anticipation of a grade one student who is certain she will be able to read after the first day of school. But my purchaser’s pride and neophyte photographer’s dreams were dashed to see that a newer HD model had trumped my brand new camera in the 3 short weeks since I had purchased it. This shocking disappointment brought me to my consumer’s knees; I realized that I could never keep up with the influx of technology; crafty, devious, technical minds were working overtime, inventing ways of making my shiny new purchase just a little inadequate and necessitating a further investment to add on to my once-perfect purchase to make up for its inherent and newly-discovered shortcomings.

Thus began a search for all the accoutrements that would enable me to make the best possible use of my second-class purchase. Perhaps a set of close-ups lenses, a polarizing filter, or a super-light highly collapsible tripod? Would another photography for dummies book help me?  Surely I was a dummy or I would have waited to buy my camera until — until when? Would there ever be a time when my purchase would stand fast against the onslaught of advancing technological change? I think not. And that awareness reminded me of something that I already knew but had temporarily forgotten in my lust for the best.  That learning is, simply, that there will always be more  – more to want, more to buy, more to outgrow and discard. We are a culture of uber-owners; we purchase goods and services as if our very well being depends upon having the latest, the greatest, the temporarily-absolute-best of everything. And with this onus on owning, this mania for material possessions, we deny ourselves the opportunity to see what we already have, and find joy in it.  It seems to me that my camera was the perfect vehicle for this reminder. Through it I can see the world that is, the gifts that are already here, that do not need upgrading – my glorious garden, this flawless mid-summer afternoon, this breathtakingly beautiful coastline city in the corner of Canada that I call home.

A high level of trust and confidence

Posted by admin on August 4, 2009

I was devastated.  The landlord of the condo had turned me down.  The three strikes of being divorced, self-employed and having a ruined credit rating were more of a risk than he wanted to take.  I left the beautiful condo that faced an entire city block of forest, was conveniently located to the shopping mall, and was everything I wanted, pretty defeated.

I ended up renting a stunning condo just a few days later that backed onto green belt, with a stream running through it.  I would lay in bed in the late summer nights and hear the salmon jump as they made their way up the river.  The condo was spacious and elegant.  The devastation of the previous rejection became a distant memory until one afternoon when I was going for a walk.

As I approached the condo complex I could hear the clanging sound of metal hitting metal.  It echoed through the air and seemed to be coming from all directions.  I gasped as I turned the corner.  The entire city block of forest was gone and the massive city wide block was now a gaping deep hole in the earth.  The sound I had heard was heavy machinery driving the pilings for a high-rise into the ground.

I looked up at the apartment I had so badly wanted that faced this devastating scene and smiled.  The landlord´s decision was not what I would have preferred at the time but oh my, it was perfect.

Since that day a few years ago, I have adopted that motto in life:  “It may not be what I prefer, but I trust it´s perfect.”  Time and time again, as I have faced challenges, adversities and disappointments, I have remembered these words.  I have let go of my expectations of what I think should happen and trusted that something much greater than me is watching out, seeing ahead and planning things carefully.

Having that level of trust and confidence in my life has helped me overcome many issues with joy, trust and grace.  And really in the big scheme of things, isn´t that the best thing we could ask for?
